Privacy Policy

What this covers
This policy explains what information prints.fyi collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect the minimum necessary for the Service to function and to protect contributor anonymity.
Information we collect
- Account email: the personal email you use to sign up, managed via our authentication provider (Clerk).
- Compensation submissions: the fields you provide (firm, group, level, base, bonus, performance bucket, etc.) tied to your account.
- Corporate email verification (optional): if you verify a corporate email to earn a verified badge, we send a magic link to that address. We do not store the corporate email address in plaintext. Only a salted hash is retained for deduplication, along with the firm identifier mapped from the email domain. The plaintext email is discarded immediately after the verification link is clicked.
- Usage telemetry: basic non-identifying analytics about how the Service is used (page views, aggregate timing, referrers). No tracking pixels or third-party advertising trackers.
How we use it
- To operate the Service and display aggregate statistics
- To authenticate you and protect your account
- To detect fraudulent or abusive submissions (including automated outlier flagging on submission)
- To send you transactional emails directly related to your account (verification confirmations, founder-badge claim confirmations, and similar)
- To improve the Service over time
We do not sell aggregate data, contributor data, or contact lists to third parties.
What we display publicly
Individual submissions are never displayed in identifiable form. We show aggregate statistics (medians, percentiles, distributions) and require minimum sample sizes per cell before any data is shown. Smaller firms and groups are bucketed more coarsely to protect contributor anonymity.
What we share
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers necessary to operate the Service:
- Vercel (hosting)
- Neon (database)
- Clerk (authentication)
- Resend (transactional email)
- Cloudflare (DNS and edge networking)
Each provider receives only the information necessary to perform its function and is bound by its own data-processing terms.
Your choices
- Edit or delete a submission within 90 days of submission, from your account page. After 90 days the submission is locked from edits; deletion remains available via email request.
- Delete your account by emailing hello@prints.fyi. Your account record is removed; the link between your past submissions and your account is severed so that the submissions become unattributed aggregate contributions. Founding-member badge numbers, once issued, are retired and not re-issued.
- Request a data export (everything we have tied to your account) by emailing hello@prints.fyi. We respond within 30 days.
- Transactional emails only. We do not send marketing emails. The emails we do send (verification, badge claim) are required for the function you initiated.
Cookies
We use cookies essential to authentication (the Clerk session cookie) and to remember your region preference. No advertising cookies or cross-site trackers.
Data retention
Submissions are retained indefinitely in aggregate form. Account information is retained while your account is active. On account deletion, account data is removed and submissions are anonymized.
California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to (a) know what personal information we have collected about you, (b) request deletion of that information, (c) request correction of inaccurate information, (d) opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of your information (we do not sell or share for cross-context behavioral advertising), and (e) be free from discrimination for exercising any of these rights. To exercise any right, email hello@prints.fyi from the address associated with your account. We respond within 45 days.
EU / UK residents (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict processing of, port, or object to processing of your personal data. Our legal basis for processing is your consent (which you can withdraw at any time) and our legitimate interest in operating the Service. To exercise any right, email hello@prints.fyi. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to, and not intended for use by, individuals under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards (TLS in transit, encryption at rest via our database provider, hashed corporate-email storage, access controls on production systems) to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, however. In the event we become aware of a security incident that affects your personal information, we will notify affected users without undue delay, and in any event within 72 hours of confirming the incident where required by applicable law.
Legal compliance
We will respond to lawful legal process. We commit to fighting overly broad requests and to notifying affected users where legally permitted.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, by direct notice to active users.
